Get Paid to Teach Kids Yoga: Here’s How

Being stuck in a job you dislike or not earning enough money can be crippling. In recent years after finding a flexible side hustle I’m passionate about, I’ve been eager to explore other avenues so I can share them here on my blog.

I came up with a huge list of more than 80 unique side hustles last year to accommodate different interest and skill sets, but I feel that post barely scratched the surface.

I recently found out you can get paid well to teach kids yoga. Sounds super fun, right? This can be a great flexible side hustle, or even a full-time job. I sat down to interview Robyn Parets who is the founder of Pretzel Kids® and Pretzel Kids Teacher Training Course to learn all about how she grew her yoga-teaching business and started training other people to earn a flexible income as well.

What Is Pretzel Kids®?

Pretzel Kids® is a kids yoga brand offering proprietary yoga training courses for adults, as well as kids classes and events.

Robyn got into the yoga-teaching business when her now college-aged kids were just 5 and 8-years-old. She owned a yoga studio for adults and wanted to teach yoga in the community for people who had kids. The program was a hit and grew as people requested her to teach their kids classes.

“The kids responded to the structure of the class and enjoyed the yoga games,” Robyn says.

After Robyn realized she needed help spreading the mission, she wrote a curriculum and ran a weekend teacher training to teach others who to teach classes using the Pretzel Kids methodology.

In 2016, she sold her yoga studio and started an online teacher training school so anyone can learn her curriculum and make money teaching kids yoga classes in the area. (get 20% off the course here)

How to Make Money as a Children’s Yoga Instructor

If becoming a children’s yoga instructor sounds like a fun way to make some extra money, Robyn’s online training course will teach you everything you need to know – even if you know very little about yoga.

“There’s no prerequisite required to take the course,” Robyn says.

“The poses are pretty simple and many we created (based on traditional Hatha Yoga postures), but it does help to have some yoga knowledge. It’s not about not getting the poses right but more about having fun with the kids and helping them get fit and become more mindful,” Robyn says.

The course includes about 10 hours of videos which include instruction on how to create and market your own kids yoga business, how to successfully run classes, and how to find work.

Robyn provides marketing materials and brochure templates with the training as well as individual coaching, which gives teachers a profile page on the Pretzel Kids website for just an extra $19.99 per month.

By successfully completing the course, you become a certified Pretzel Kids® instructor, which qualifies you to go out and teach the curriculum. However, the Pretzel Kids training alone does not certify you to teach adult yoga classes. For this, Robyn recommends taking a 200-hour teacher training course at a local yoga studio. The best thing about teaching Pretzel Kids yoga is that you don’t need to spend the time and money on an adult yoga teacher training, she says.

The intention with Pretzel Kids is to help you to build a kids yoga business and teach fun yoga classes to children and teens at schools, community centers, and anywhere else kids congregate. You can even run birthday parties, one of the biggest income generators for Pretzel Kids teachers.

Robyn suggests marketing your business to yoga studios, community centers, preschools/elementary schools, and even local park districts.

This can be a great side hustle for parents since you’ll already have an instant network with the parents of your child’s friends and classmates.

How Much Can Yoga Teachers Make?

You may be wondering how much children’s yoga teachers can earn working part-time. Robyn says that the pay structure does vary depending on who and where you’re teaching.

“We are not a franchise and can’t set fees for you,” she says.

“However, Pretzel Kids® doesn’t take any of your earnings. We are a training program designed to give you the knowledge and tools to start your own business. Once you pay for the course, all of your earnings are yours.”

Robyn did go over an example of the types of fees you can expect depending on where and how you teach.

If you’re teaching at a preschool, you can probably expect to earn $25 – $100+ per hour. If you’re running your own classes at a yoga studio, you may have to split the profit 50/50 with the owner of the space. In that case, you can probably charge $10-$14 per class per person. For after-school programs, you can earn an average of $40 per class.

If you rent your own space to host classes, you can charge whatever you want but keep in mind the cost of the space so you can price accordingly and earn a profit.

Robyn explained how birthday parties can be particularly profitable since you can set your own price and most parents are more than willing to splurge a little bit for the celebration. Depending on how long the party is and how many kids will be attending, you can earn around $100 – $250+.

A Worthy Discount For You!

Normally, the online Pretzel Kids® Teacher Training Course runs at $298. However, Robyn has launched a campaign with iFundWomen to raise funds to train Boston public school teachers for free.

Instead of teaching one class of 25 kids, Pretzel Kids® can focus on training 25 instructors to teach 25 kids – that’s 625 kids learning yoga and mindfulness techniques in just one 45-minute period!

To support the cause, you can enroll in the online training program at a discounted rate for just $200 when you do so via the iFundWomen campaign page here (this sale is available through March 31st).

It’s really a win-win. You get to start a fun and flexible new business (for cheap) while supporting a program that will positively impact the kids in Boston’s public school system.

New Partnership

Recently, Pretzel Kids® has partnered with Wonderschool, a network of boutique early childhood programs. Through this partnership, Wonderschool teachers, directors, and parents will be able to take Pretzel Kids yoga training in order to teach yoga and mindfulness at their schools.

The Wonderschool team works with experienced educators and childcare providers to help them start their own childcare or preschools out of their homes, whether they live in apartments, condos, or homes that they rent or own.

They provide assistance with licensing, program setup, marketing and everything in between.

Wonderschool care programs are located all over the country and if you’re interested in working with kids and helping them develop, you can start your own home-based preschool and integrate yoga mindfulness classes for the kids by taking the Pretzel Kids training course.
