Is TesterUp Legit?

If you’re looking to make money by testing out apps and websites online, TesterUp is a popular option. TesterUp states on its website that you can earn up to $120 per test your complete. But is this too good to be true and is TesterUp legit?

Being curious about this company, I signed up myself to see how it works. Let’s take a closer look and discover what TesterUp is all about and exactly what you may anticipate.

What Is TesterUp?

Is TesterUp Legit mydebtepiphany

TesterUp is a free online user testing platform that you can use to test out new games and apps in exchange for PayPal payments. On the website, TesterUp claims that you can make up to $120 for each game that you download and play.

As a result, TesterUp appears to be a successful approach to earning money online as a job or lucrative side hustle. However, as we’ll discuss, the marketing is a little deceptive.

How Does TesterUp Work?

To start testing apps, you’ll need to create an account and register with TesterUp’s website or mobile app.

This is fairly easy and only requires four steps.

First, you’ll need to sign up using your email address and a password. You can also sign up with your Facebook or Gmail account. You’ll need to be at least 18 years old to register on Testerup.

Once you’ve registered, you can start downloading games and apps to make money. Although there are other tasks you may do for money, downloads are the ones that bring in the most cash. TesterUp insists that you download the games via the URLs they offer you so they can monitor your development.

For each level you complete in the games and apps, you’ll receive a set sum of money. But bear in mind that you have a limited amount of time to accomplish the stages, which is why some individuals don’t believe TesterUp is legitimate.

The fact that TesterUp only allows withdrawals when you achieve $70 is another drawback. This threshold quantity is significantly greater than similar gaming and survey websites. This implies that earning the required sum of money will take a while before you can cash out.

PayPal is the only payment option offered by TesterUp. Luckily, the payment is processed within 24 hours when you cash out.

Who Can Join TesterUp?

Anyone can join TesterUp as long as they’re at least 18+. It’s available in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and other countries.

How Do You Get Paid?

You’ll get paid anywhere between $20 and $100 for doing a task. However, there are situations when you have to use your own money to fulfill the requirements to complete the assignment that has been given.

You can also get paid for referring to people — receiving 10% of their earnings whenever they successfully complete a task on Testerup.

Once you reach the $70 threshold, you can cash out via PayPal.

Is TesterUp Legit?

Upon investigation and viewing reviews across the website – along with my own personal experience, – I’m led to think TesterUp isn’t legit. According to the website, you can make hundreds of dollars and receive up to $120 for each test. However, in order to try and make money, you actually have to spend your own money.

Additionally, I just really don’t like that high threshold to redeem your earnings. When I signed up, I immediately received an offer to earn $185 for playing a game. Right off the bat, that seemed like a ton of money just to play a game online.

Many of the games you’ll test will require spending your own money on in-game items to complete the level. This defeats the purpose of earning money for playing games. When you don’t have to do this, you’ll earn significantly less — sometimes only a whopping $5 for completing an entire task.

TesterUp Pros and Cons

So, we’ve gone out why I believe TesterUp isn’t necessarily legit. But if you still want to test it out, here are a few pros and cons to be mindful of.

Pros

  • Free registration
  • The user interface is decent
  • Available worldwide
  • Offers plenty of games and opportunities to play
  • The app is available for iOS and Android

Cons

  • $70 payout threshold
  • Some consumers say that Testerup provides poor customer service and improper offer tracking
  • Many negative reviews online
  • The majority of missions require more time to complete than you’re given
  • For some games to be completed, you’ll need to spend your own money
  • PayPal is the only cashout method

Survey Site Red Flags

Now that we’ve talked about TesterUp and if it’s legit or not, let’s talk about potential red flags to look out for when it comes to any site that claims to pay you money.

  • Poor privacy policy or a lack of one
  • Lack of customer service (no chat options, no phone number, etc.)
  • Testimonials that can’t be verified (Who wrote them?)
  • Excessive requests for your personal info
  • Poor reviews on sites like Trustpilot
  • Fees that you have to pay to earn money
  • Minimal company info available
  • The company has unresolved complaints

Should You Use TesterUp?

So, should you use TeserUp now that you know more about them?

In my honest opinion Testerup is probably not worth your time – UNLESS you already play a ton of game apps online. If you’ve already been spending a little money on credits and other in-game purchases, it may make sense to try to reimburse yourself by earning on TesterUp.

However, I’ve found that this site tends to offer more games and no website review opportunities like competitors such as UserTesting and UserFeel. It just seems to have more disadvantages than advantages.

Not only are the ads about $120 per test too good to be true, they’re also completely false — unless you want to spend your own money so there’s a catch.

User reviews on customer service also raise red flags because this means the site is unresponsive and unreliable. You should never trust a site with more negative reviews and complaints than those who like it.

Luckily, there are legit sites out there that you can use.

What to Use Instead of TesterUp

While TesterUp may be a bust, there are still some sites that are legit and can earn you money in your spare time!

Swagbucks

Swagbucks offers surveys, videos, polls, and more to earn money. And it’s been in the game for a while, making it one of the OGs of survey sites (and one of the oldest ones still running, so you know it’s legit). The company has a Trust Pilot rating of 4.3 stars.

100 Swagbucks equals $1. You can redeem your Swagbucks for gift cards to popular retailers and restaurants, or cash out via PayPal. The choices are fairly extensive.

Branded Surveys

Branded Surveys has a Trust Pilot rating of 4.2 stars, and the company pays you for completing online surveys and other tasks like polls, referring friends, and more.

100 points is equal to $1, and you can redeem your rewards once you reach 500 points ($5). You can redeem these points for free gift cards to many different places or choose to cash out via PayPal or ACH.

Survey Junkie

With a Trust Pilot rating of 4.3 stars, Survey Junkie is a great site to earn money with surveys. The average survey on this site ranges from 3 minutes to 20 minutes, and you can earn an average of 50-100 points per survey (equal to $.50-$1.00).

You can redeem your points for cash once you reach the site’s $10 threshold. It will be automatically deposited into your Paypal account once you cash out.

Respondent (Focus Groups)

Still looking to earn $100+ by completing easy tasks? Focus groups are super popular and they’re a legit way to earn money by giving your opinion. Companies hire market research firms to host focus groups and help them hear what consumers think about different products and services.

While focus groups tend to occur in person, I’ve done plenty of online focus groups too. My favorite place to find focus groups is Respondent, but you can also check out this post for more suggestions.

If you’re subscribed to my newsletter, I share focus group opportunities each month.
