You can customize the scent of your cleaning products too by adding your own essential oils. You’ll find that your homemade products can be just as effective as store-bought ones. Plus, making your own products helps reduce plastic waste, which is another win. 

Do you have to DIY everything? No. I suggest starting with one or two products, and expanding as needed or when you have time. But just replacing a few products with your own DIY options can help you save quite a bit of money over time. 

Bundle Insurance Policies and Shop Around

Insurance is always a necessary expense, but there are many ways to lower your premiums without sacrificing coverage. One of the most effective methods is bundling your insurance policies, including home, auto, and life insurance (if applicable), with the same provider. Many companies offer discounts when you do this, and it can save you hundreds over the course of a year or two.

It’s also important to regularly shop around for insurance. Just because you’ve been with one company for years doesn’t mean they’re still offering the best rates. Take time each year to compare quotes from different providers. You may find that switching companies or even negotiating with your current provider can lower your costs. 

Cancel Subscriptions and Services

Subscriptions can be sneaky expenses that drain your budget each month. Once we start paying for them, it’s easy to view those monthly costs as a fixed part of our financial routine, even when they’re not necessities.

Take some time to look closely at your subscriptions — whether they’re streaming services, magazines, or apps — and consider which ones you can live without. Canceling just a few can free up funds for more important expenses.

This also applies to services that seem free to use or offer major coupons/savings for signing up, like food delivery apps. For example, DoorDash offers a monthly or annual subscription but it might entice you to order out more often than necessary, which doesn’t save you money. By cutting these non-essential services, you can redirect that money towards savings or other financial goals.

Use Coupons and Cashback Apps

Saving money doesn’t have to be complicated, especially with all of the tools available today. Unlike a few decades ago, you also don’t have to spend hours searching for the best coupon options or to get the best deal. Coupons and cashback apps like Rakuten or Ibotta can provide significant savings on everyday purchases.

These apps are easy to use and often include deals you couldn’t find elsewhere. Also, using a cashback credit card can help you save even more. Just be sure to pay off the balance each month to avoid interest charges. By combining these tools, you can make the most of your spending and enjoy discounts on items you would have purchased anyway.
